Heat a large pan or griddle over medium heat.
Butter one side of each slice of bread and place butter-side down in the pan. Top each slice with Fontina cheese and cook until golden brown and melty.
In the same pan, heat the pepperoni until warm and slightly crisp at the edges.
Place pepperoni evenly on 4 slices of bread, then top with the remaining slices, pressing slightly.
Cut in half and serve immediately with warm pizza sauce for dipping.
